a new experience...

we were so excited when we found out that michael & johnese were going to make it out for ryan's graduation show from his ucb 301 improv class.  it is always so fun to have them, they're always up for exploring a new part of the city.  this trip was no exception...
we had a terrifying scary exhilarating (?) experience in downtown LA.  it all started out fine as we took the metro downtown to the fashion district.  johnese had a sewing project going at home, so we thought we could check out some fabric.

after we found some fabric and did our share of people watching, we decided we needed a bite to eat.  ry remembered a cool german place we had gone to one other time, and we all decided since it was only about a mile away, we could hoof it.  ry mapped it out and we started on our happy little way.

this "restaurant" should have been our first sign that we should turn around, and run home as fast as we could.

we kept walking, all of us not saying much just quietly thinking in our head that something didn't seem right.  at one point i said that i didn't feel good about our current location, but by then we all thought we should just keep going and pray we ended up in a better neighborhood.  i won't go into detail, but the large amount of homeless people, and the small amount of public restrooms made for one bad scene.

i have never been so happy to see a bratwurst and a beer in my life.  when we sat down to wait for our food ry did a little googling and found out we had walked right through skid row.  yes, walked.  not somewhere any of us will be returning to anytime soon!

the rest of our weekend was so great, probably in part because we were all so happy we were still alive.  we got to share some of our new favorite hot spots with m & j which is always so fun!

the inn of the 7th ray in topanga canyon.  the ambiance is great, and the champagne is even better :o).

so much fun!  can't wait for you guys' next visit, we promise we'll do our best not to put you in another life threatening situation :o).
